The Watergate Crisis, briefly discussed in Study Unit 4, was a famous historical incident in which members of the media were a direct catalyst of political change. Your task in this TMA is to write an essay that addresses each of the following three requirements:

1. Explain the significance of the Watergate crisis. Analyse the media’s role in uncovering the crisis and apply key concepts and themes from the Study Units to assist with your analysis. (35 marks)
2. The Watergate Crisis had a profound impact on the norms and practices of investigative journalism. Define “investigative journalism” and explain what its key features are. Analyse how the Watergate crisis influenced the field of investigative journalism. (35 marks)
3. Civic/public journalism and developmental journalism are two other types of journalism. Compare and contrast the goals of these two types of journalism with investigative journalism and analyse which of these 2 types of journalism would be more useful in uncovering detrimental truths such as Watergate. (30 marks)
