IMPLICATION OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS FOR AUSTRALIAN STAKEHOLDERS  

Case Overview

Each student is required to submit an individual essay of approximately 2,000 words by Week 6. The purpose of this assessment is to assess student capacity to demonstrate their theoretical knowledge and practical application of international trade theories and foreign direct investment theories.

Students are required to apply international trade and foreign direct investment theories in the analysis of the news relevant to international business published by credible outlets over the period of the first four weeks of the semester.

Assignment Topic

  1. Choose two newspaper or periodical articles that are relevant to international business.
    • Both articles must be published in the first 4 weeks of the semester.
    • Articles must be sourced from Australian newspapers or periodicals (print or online editions).
    • Ensure that both articles relate to major topic areas of international business (e.g., international trade, foreign direct investment, multinational operations, etc.).
    • Include copies of both articles as appendices in your submission. These can be scanned originals or website links.
  2. Using the two selected articles, write an essay that addresses the following tasks:

    A. Analysis of Implications – Discuss the implications of each article for the following stakeholders:

    B. Theoretical Application – Identify and explain the most relevant international business theory or theories (as covered in Chapter 5 of your textbook and Lectures 3 and 4 that can be used to analyse the content or issues in the articles.

    • You may choose one theory per article (i.e., two different theories), or one theory that is applicable to both articles.
    • Justify your selection and clearly explain how the theory supports your analysis.
