Team Project: Consultancy Report

Length: Guideline 10,000 words. (2000 words more or less) Due 5th October 2024

Purpose:

This team written assignment is aimed at enhancing your ability to integrate the material learned on this course and to apply that material to a “live” situation via a consultancy report. In addition, the group work will enhance your teamwork skills.

The expectation is that this project be as applied as possible within the realms of Global Business Strategies. Groups should choose a real company, sector, or product category.

• The project may relate to any aspect of this module. Accordingly, the following potential project areas may stimulate your group interest.
• An application of the tools of strategic analysis in terms of the firm’s goals, values and performance.
• An industry analysis relating to a specific sector and a specific company in the international environment.
• A resources and capabilities analysis of a company and implications for international expansion.
• An analysis of organisational structure and management systems.
• The sources and dimensions of competitive advantage.
• Industry evolution and strategic change
• Technology-based industries and the management of innovation Vertical integration and the scope of the firm. Global strategy and the Multinational Corporation.
• Diversification Strategy.
• An analysis of international strategic alliances / networks in action.
• An applied entry strategy for a given global market.

Assignment Specification:

The class will be divided into project teams of six. (Seven is acceptable, but remember that the bigger the group, the more difficult to ensure that all are working.) Each group will decide democratically on a group coordinator, who should embody the relevant qualities. Each group will do a global strategy consultancy report on a particular company entering a particular international market addressing the key themes of Global Strategic Management.

The company selected does not need to be approved by the instructor. However, each team should include a statement with the paper that they have not used a company that has been chosen in another class. This report will involve: The grading of the project is based on the UCD grading system: A = Excellent; B = Very Good; C = Good; and D = Fair. The differentiating factors with respect to grades are highlighted in part 5. Each Students are expected to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of International Business through the execution of a high level of discussion, analysis, synthesis and evaluation with regard to the specific question.
