[PART A] CASE SCENARIO
Titanium Pte Ltd (TPL) had always recognized the importance of effective teamwork in its organization. It is believed that teams could help an organization gain customer focus, improve work efficiency, and foster a spirit of cooperation and collaboration within the organization.
Hence, it was no surprise that Titanium formed a formal group to work on a 6-month project to plan for its annual Dinner and Dance. The group was made up of 5 members from different departments and all members had their individual personalities and job roles.
- Dennis was the vice president of Marketing He was also appointed as the leader of the team.
- Jamie was the senior manager from Purchasing Her main role was to handle the company’s purchasing documents, and usually had to work until past 10pm daily
- Agnes was the manager of Customer Service She was always busy handling challenging customers at the front line.
- Ryan was the executive from the Logistics Department. He was usually at the warehouse, receiving goods on behalf of the
- Eve was the executive from the Human Resource She was usually conducting interviews and hence, was hardly at her desk.
As everyone was busy at their respective departments, it was after much coordination that the team managed to have their first meeting on a Thursday afternoon. During the first meeting, Dennis explained the objectives of the project. He also spent most of the time getting the team members to know one another. At the end of the meeting, the team agreed to meet in 2 weeks’ time.
During the second meeting, Agnes arrived late, and the rest of the team did not seem too pleased with her. There were also some conflicting ideas on the proposed theme for the Dinner and Dance.
Ryan suggested a ‘Retro Theme’ while Jamie insisted on her idea of having a ‘Hollywood Night’. The meeting was not productive, and the members would suddenly raise their voices to get their ideas heard.
Dennis had a hard time getting the team to focus on the agenda of the meeting. The situation got worse when Jamie stormed out of the meeting room, mumbling that the meeting was a waste of her time.
