Assignment Brief:

a. Identify a product that is manufactured in or trade originating from Singapore by a local small and medium enterprise (SME). The company and the product you choose must be approved by your main lecturer.

b. Product is exported to any two of the following overseas markets:

• North Americas: the United States or Canada
• Australasia: Australia or New Zealand
• European Union countries
• ASEAN member states
• The United Kingdom
• Japan
• South Korea
• China
• Taiwan
• Middle East countries

c. Prepare an ‘Export and Documentation Plan’ for the chosen product. Containing:

• The sales volume, frequency, and mode of sailings, and the logistical mode.
• The destination port of call and applicable incoterms.
• Highlight the types of financial and logistical documentation required for the consignment.
  Explain the application.

d.  What if questions:

• What additional effort or documentation is needed if the buyer decides to purchase on a
  ‘Delivered’ basis i.e. DPU, DAP, DDP?
• The exporting company consults you, asking what other opportunities or trade facilitation is available to help improve its competitiveness in the cited export market. Advice.

Part 1: Final Report 
Guidelines on the content of the final report:
1. Name and background of the company.

2. Description of the product and its competitive advantage (since Singapore is not the most competitive location for manufacturing or trading)

3. Description of the identified overseas (export) market.

4. Explain the logistics routing/ transportation modes used.

5. Demographic profile, availability of infrastructure, business environment, etc. in the country of destination

6. Description of the trade documentation e.g. financial instrument i.e. L/C, shipping documentation, trade-related documentation i.e. Cert of Origin or Attestation, regulatory control documentation i.e. Phytosanitary cert, if applicable.

7. Business opportunities and logistics challenges (specific to question-d, above)
