Submission
You are reminded that electronic transmission is not immediate. Hence, you are advised to submit your work no later than the day before the cut-off date in order to ensure that the submission is accepted and in good time. It is possible that the network traffic may be particularly heavy on the cut-off date and connections to the system cannot be guaranteed.
You should not jeopardise your course result by submitting your ECA at the last minute.
Academic Integrity
All written work is required to be referenced. That is, formally acknowledging the source of ideas, quotes, or facts gained from other authors and which are used directly or indirectly in the text of your papers. The American Psychological Association (APA) referencing style must be used for all in-text citations, references, figures, and tables. For more information, you may refer to https://libguides.suss.edu.sg/apa.
Honesty and integrity are the foundations of all forms of academic work, including at SUSS. Direct lifting of texts without acknowledgment is plagiarism, and disciplinary action will be taken. Students are advised to synthesise and rephrase ideas in your own words. If you use generative AI in your assignment, be sure to provide in-text citations and attribute using Table A. For formats of proper citation and attribution of generative AI generative response, please refer to:
https://rise.articulate.com/share/GlQuywqm9MmZkxbaGig0HjjFA73k7aBr#/ .
Please be aware that all submissions will be automatically screened by the Turnitin, which contains plagiarism detection through a similarity index. Similarity index is NOT, by itself, an indicator of whether you have (self) plagiarised or not. A responsible way of drawing on external sources is citation and attribution. Review https://www.suss.edu.sg/about-suss/centres/teaching-and-learning-centre/learning-support for guidelines and tips to avoid plagiarism and guidance on the use of generative AI (See Section 5.1 Part K).
You are reminded that the penalties for academic dishonesty are severe and may include expulsion from the programme or referral to SUSS’ Student Disciplinary Group. Details on the academic dishonesty can be found in your student handbook. Please refer to Section 5.2 Academic Matters of the University Student Handbook on academic integrity and plagiarism.

Question 1
Briefly describe your chosen team project. Your description must state the team’s purpose, the number of members, their key roles, and the intended outcomes (Max 100 words).
Use the Team Effectiveness Scale (Appendix 1) to rate your team’s performance during the project across the five core characteristics: Coordinated Interaction, Compelling Purpose, Interlocking Interdependence, Adaptive Structure, and Cohesive Alliance.
Identify the TOP TWO (2) highest-rated dimensions. For each dimension, describe specific examples from your project experience. Explain why these examples represent success by linking them directly to the definitions provided in the scale (Max 800 words).
Note: Please include a screenshot of your completed scale as a figure. Do not repeat the definitions of the dimensions; focus your response on the analysis and the link between your examples and the theory.
(20 marks)
Question 2
Select ONE (1) of the lowest-rated dimensions from your evaluation in Question 1. Explain how the team’s decision making process contributed to lower team effectiveness (Max 500 words). Support your explanation with examples.
(15 marks)

Question 4
You have been appointed as the Team Lead for “Project Loud” at a Singapore-based telecommunications firm. Project Loud is an underperforming division that has lost its competitive edge due to a stagnant culture and poor execution. Management has assigned an entirely new team of six members with you as their leader. Your goal is to move the project forward quickly while managing the team.
Your Team Member includes:
- Ross (62 years old): 40 years of experience in traditional operations. He is skeptical of modernizing the brand and prefers established traditions.
- Monica (48 years old): 20 years in project management. She is highly competent but currently shows signs of passive compliance rather than commitment due to a lack of shared vision.
- Chandler (38 years old): 15 years in marketing. He has high Expert Power but has started to isolate himself, feeling his work is not properly recognized.
- Rachel (32 years old): 7 years in digital media. She is highly energetic but feels her creative ideas are often ignored.
- Phoebe (28 years old): 5 years in data analytics. While talented, she appears less motivated in group settings where individual output is pooled into a single report.
- Joey (23 years old): Management Trainee. High potential but feels intimidated by the formal hierarchy and the experience level of other team members.
Question 4a
You have decided to adopt Transformational Leadership to create a high-performing team. Briefly describe this leadership and define its FOUR (4) components.
Demonstrate how you would utilize each of the four components to influence members of your team to improve their engagement and team performance (Max 500 words).
(20 marks)
Question 4b
It has been two months since the revival of “Project Loud”. While you have successfully built individual relationships using Transformational Leadership, you observe that the team’s actual productivity is lower than its potential.
The team is currently working on an additive task: conducting 1000 customer surveys and pooling the data into one master spreadsheet. Because the final survey output is a single collective figure, you notice that individual contributions have become “hidden”. Members have begun observing each other’s daily efforts, and a grumbling has emerged that Phoebe, Chandler, and Monica are contributing significantly less than the others. This reduction in individual effort as the group works together is impacting the project’s timeline.
Identify and explain the phenomenon occurring in the team that is resulting in reduced collective effectiveness. Propose TWO (2) specific strategies you would take as a leader to restore high performance (Max 500 words)
Note: A total of 5 marks will be awarded for the entire paper based on the clarity of written language and the accurate use of APA referencing.
